Selah : Holy Pause

Sharing what I learned from church is so refreshing... So hello there my dearest blog readers, Im hoping I can share what I understand during the worship service to you all.

So the topic is about Selah : Holy Pause, how we will have a good relationship to God if we don't know how to make the right time to pause, and pay attention to Him. From the handout that our church handed us for this message,

This busy-ness posts a danger in our growing intimacy with God as followers of Christ. We may find ourselves just like Martha who was worried and bothered with so man thing. It is time to step back and pause to choose the right thing that which Mary has chosen, to sit at the feet of Jesus to listen to Him attentively. [Read Luke 10:39-42]

As a human, oftentimes we get so busy doing different tasks to other, and we got ourselves becoming demanding, irritable, frustrated, impatient and other negative moods. We are so busy doing things that might lead us to have less intimacy with God. Why don't we try to hear God's words more, and let the intimacy grow with Him, and for sure we will begin to focus on our cares, ourselves and others.....

From Celebration of Discipline: The Path to Spiritual Growth, author Richard Foster made this significant observation:

In contemporary society our Adversary majors in three things: noise, hurry, and crowds. If he can keep us engaged in “much-ness” and “manyness,” he will rest satisfied

Selah is a Hebrew word in the bible that essentially means a holy pause in order to pay attention. In Psalms, it signals people to stop singing but keep the music going so they could reflect on what the have just sung.

When do wee need to pause?
God reminds us to pause amidst our busy-ness. Jesu modeled the "holy pause".

Man usually pauses:
1. When pinned against the wall
2. When overwhelmed with problems
3. When grieving
4. When dead tired
5. When we are not sure or obscure ahead
6. When your direction is wandering
7. When you have done wrong
8. When you thing it is hopeless

But we should not pause in this times, because God have solutions in that. For,
1. He knows a way out : 1 Cor. 10:13
2. He have a solution : Matt 7:7
3. He is a comforter: 2 Cor. 1:3-4
4. He is a helper to assist you : Matt 11:28-30
5. He is the Light : 2 Sam 22:21
6. He is the way : John 14:6
7. He is a forgiver : 1 John 1:9
8. He is patient : Romans 15:4-5

What do we need to pay attention to?
Jesus did not pause just to be alone and away from the crowd, but in order to pay attention to His Father in prayer. Often we pause to ask God for specific answers to our prayers, for directions or signs. Our holy pause is not about our agenda. We pause so we could give our full and undivided attention on God's character
and His prescribed character for us.

God's prescribed character for us:
1. Hates sin
2. Humble
3. Grateful
4. Trusting

He is more concerned with our character than our comfort. When we do Selah regularly with God, we become less concerned about our personal agenda. We also develops our intimacy with God that will allow us to know Him deeper and know ourselves better. And we will gain from it in the way of making better choices and decisions aligned with the will and purpose of GOD.

*I hope you understand Selah from this blog post, I may not a good as others, but I tried my best to inform you about God's word that touched my heart. Many thanks to the handout and notes when our Pastor shared this message.

INSPIRATIONAL SONG: Jesus Son Of God (Altar Of Our Praise)-Chris Tomlin/Christy Nockles Passion 2012 w/Lyrics

Lyrics:
You came down from heavens throne
This earth you formed was not your home
A love like this the world had never known
A crown of thorns to mock your name
Forgiveness fell upon your face
A love like this the world had never known
On the altar of your praise let there be no higher name
Jesus Son of God
You laid down Your perfect life You are the sacrifice
Jesus Son of God
You are Jesus Son of God
You took our sin You bore our shame
You rose to life You defeated the grave
Love like this the world had never known

On the altar of your praise let there be no higher name
Jesus Son of God
You laid down Your perfect life You are the sacrifice
Jesus Son of God
You are Jesus Son of God

Be lifted higher than all You've overcome
Your name be louder than any other song
There is no power that can come against your love

The cross was enough
The cross was enough
The cross was enough
The cross was enough
